Easy Steps to get PR in Australia

The first step in applying for Australian PR is to determine your eligibility. The Australian government offers various visa categories, each with specific requirements. Common eligibility criteria include age, English language proficiency, skilled employment experience, qualifications, and health and character assessments. Use tools such as the Department of Home Affairs' points calculator to assess your points based on these criteria. Generally, a minimum of 65 points is required to qualify. This initial assessment helps you understand whether you meet the basic requirements and identifies areas where you might need to improve

Australia offers several pathways to PR, including Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189), Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190), and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491). Each visa type has different criteria and benefits. The Skilled Independent Visa is a points-based visa for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member, or nominated by a state or territory government. The Skilled Nominated Visa requires state or territory nomination, and the Skilled Work Regional Visa is for those willing to live and work in regional areas. Selecting the right visa depends on your personal circumstances, skills, and preferences.

For most skilled visas, you need to have your skills assessed by a relevant assessing authority. Each occupation has a designated assessing authority responsible for evaluating qualifications and work experience. This step ensures that your skills and qualifications meet Australian standards. The process involves submitting your academic transcripts, employment references, and other relevant documents to the assessing body. A positive skill assessment is crucial as it forms the foundation of your PR application.

Once you have a positive skills assessment, the next step is to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the SkillSelect system. The EOI is an online form that provides details about your skills, work experience, and qualifications. This form is used by the Australian government, state and territory governments, and Australian employers to identify potential candidates for skilled visas. Submitting an EOI does not guarantee an invitation to apply for a visa, but it is a necessary step in the process.

After submitting your EOI, you will be entered into a pool of candidates. Invitations to apply for a visa are issued to the highest-ranking candidates who meet the eligibility requirements. The frequency and number of invitations vary based on the visa category and current immigration targets. If you receive an invitation, you will have a limited time, typically 60 days, to submit a formal visa application. Being invited to apply is a significant milestone in the PR process.

Upon receiving an invitation, you can proceed to lodge your visa application. This involves completing the online application form and uploading all required documents, such as your skill assessment, English language test results, educational qualifications, employment references, health examinations, and police clearances. Ensure that all information is accurate and complete, as any discrepancies can delay the processing time or lead to refusal. Pay the necessary visa application fee when submitting your application.

After lodging your application, you will need to wait for the Department of Home Affairs to process your application. The processing time can vary depending on the visa category and the complexity of your case. During this period, the immigration authorities may request additional information or documents. It is crucial to respond promptly to any such requests to avoid delays. Regularly check the status of your application online and keep all communication from the Department of Home Affairs in order.

If your application is successful, you will receive a visa grant notification. This notification will include your visa grant number, the date your visa starts, and any visa conditions. Congratulations, you are now a permanent resident of Australia! As a PR holder, you have the right to live, work, and study anywhere in Australia. You can also sponsor eligible family members for permanent residence, and eventually apply for Australian citizenship if you meet the residency requirements.
